Three-time group I winner Hawk Wing suffered a knee ligament injury in Tuesday's Queen Anne Stakes (Eng-I) at Royal Ascot, trainer Aidan O'Brien said.

O'Brien said he hopes his charge can recover in time to compete in some of the top mile events scheduled this fall.

The racecourse vet at Ascot reported Hawk Wing was lame after finishing seventh in the Queen Anne as a strong favorite.

"Hawk Wing was both lame and very sore this morning," O'Brien told the Racing Post on Wednesday. "Our vet John Halley examined him and found that he had strained the check ligament at the back of the knee on his near foreleg.

"The horse is going to need three to four weeks treatment and complete rest and then we will see what the future might hold. I hope we will have him back for races such as the Prix du Moulin and the Queen Elizabeth II stakes but we will just have to wait and see."
