The New York Therapeutic Riding Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Thoroughbred Charities of America. The riding center has operated its Equestria program for six years, which targets children and adults with various disabilities living in the five boroughs of New York. Various hospitals and agencies currently refer patients to the riding center. This is the third year the organization has received a TCA grant.
The center is based at the Claremont Riding Academy, a stable on West 89th Street in Manhattan, N.Y. The program boards its 10 horses at the academy and uses the indoor arena for lessons which reach about 30 students and 25 volunteers annually. Claremont is also a public stable.
