The Magic Millions national weanling sale produced more highlights on day two of the weanling section. Encosta de Lago, the highly prepotent son of Fairy King, ended up with the day's top lot when an unnamed buyer, acting through Magic Millions, spent Aus$300,000 for one of his sons.
The price was a bargain according to some who thought the attractive animal had star quality written all over him. The colt, consigned by New South Wales-based Reavill Farm, has an excellent pedigree, by Encosta de Lago out of Citirecruit, by Citidancer.
Next best price was $265,000 for the Redoute's Choice--Pure Bright colt, paid by the ever expanding Wadham Park in Queensland.
Racetrack favorite and Aus$6 million earner Lonhro had his first ever weanlings pass through the ring and one of them, a colt out of the mare Palme d'Or, fetched $260,000 when a New Zealand agent bought him.
Day two ended much the same way as day one with record takings and vendor approval right across the board. Day three continues Sunday with more great pedigrees including sons of Encosta de Lago, Redoute's Choice and highly acclaimed new boy Exceed And Excel.
The weanling section of the 2600-strong sale is on track to break all average and gross records.
"Breeders now realize the Gold Coast in June is the place to bring their quality youngsters," boasted Magic Millions CEO David Chester.
