Cherokee Run Filly Brings $270,000 to Top OBS Opener

A Cherokee Run filly whose quarter-mile breeze in :21 1/5 June 14 was the fastest at the distance, went to Arosa Farms for $270,000 to top the June 17 opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. 2003 June sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age.
Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of stakes winner Social Director, by Deputy Minister.
For the session, 131 horses grossed $2,293,700, compared with 122 horses that brought $2,597,600 at the corresponding session a year ago. The average price was $17,509, compared with $21,292 in last year's opening session, while the median price was $9,000, compared with $10,000 in 2002. The buy-back rate was 31.7%, up from 27.8% in 2002.
Joliejolie Star, a filly by Mister Jolie consigned by Preferred Equine LLC, agent, was sold to F.W. Lucas for $102,000. The bay filly is out of stakes-placed Lite a Star, and is a half sister to stakes winner Program Pick. She worked a quarter in :21 2/5 during the June 14 under-tack session.
A filly by Shamrock Ridge whose three-eighths of a mile in :33 2/5 was the fastest, was sold to Martin Cherry for $82,000. The gray or roan filly, consigned by Equine Legacy Farm (Tony and Robin Hendrix), agent, is out of Sophisticatedblend, by Silver Buck, a daughter of stakes winner Third and Ten.
An Our Emblem filly consigned by Paul Sharp, agent, went to McMahon Bloodstock, agent for $80,000. The bay filly is out of Silent Senora, by El Gran Senor, a daughter of graded stakes winner Silent Turn. She worked three eighths in :33 4/5 at the June 14 under-tack show.
