Edmund Gann's 1-2 favorite You erased some doubts about her recent form with a convincing win in Saturday's $327,900 Fleur de Lis Handicap (gr. II) for fillies and mares at Churchill Downs.
Ridden by Jerry Bailey for trainer Bobby Frankel, You prevailed by 3 3/4 lengths over a closing Printemps and Calvin Borel in a time of 1:49 for the 1 1/8-mile journey on a fast track. Printemps eked out second by a neck over Nonsuch Bay. So Much More was fourth in a three-way photo for the place spot.
After a third-place finish, beaten by 4 3/4 lengths as a heavy favorite in the Shuvee (gr. II) at Belmont in her last start, the Kentucky bred 4-year-old daughter of You and I returned to one of her favorite tracks. She now owns a record of three wins and a second in five starts.
You settled into second in the six-horse field and tracked So Much More easily while racing slightly wide into the final turn through fractions of :24, :48 and 1:11 4/5. She reached the front at the top of the stretch and responded to urging from Bailey to put some distance from the field, increasing her advantage through the stretch.
"Jerry (Bailey) said he was going to let her run out of there and if someone else wanted the lead, that was OK," said Frankel. "I just let him ride it the way he sees it."
You won for the ninth time in 19 career starts while earning $203,298 for the victory. She has a career bankroll of $1,891,353.
Dolphus C. Morrison bred You, who is out of the Homebuilder mare Our Dani.
The winner paid $3, $2.20 and $2.10. Printemps, the 6-1 second choice, returned $3.40 and $2.40. Nonsuch Bay, ridden by Mark Guidry, paid $2.60. The $2 exacta was worth $14.20.
