Edward P. Evans' Raging Fever, a Grade I stakes winning daughter of Storm Cat, invades from New York to top a field of nine fillies and mares entered in the $175,000-added Chicago Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) Saturday at Arlington Park.
Trained by Mark Hennig, Raging Fever finished a disappointing sixth in the Grade II Shuvee Handicap at Belmont Park in her most recent start. In her two previous trips to the post this year, both at Aqueduct, the 5-year-old mare finished second to Carson Hollow in the Grade II Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap in March and wired her rivals in the Grade III Bed o' Roses Breeders' Cup Handicap in April.
A career earner of more than $1.4 million, Raging Fever has 11 wins in 22 starts including three Grade I victories: the 2000 Matron, the 2000 Frizette and the 2002 Ogden Phipps Handicap.
Raging Fever will carry the starting highweight of 120 pounds including jockey Aaron Gryder. She will spot her eight rivals from four to 10 pounds.
Slated to face Raging Fever (with jockey and weight assignment) are:
For Rubies (Craig Perret, 116 pounds);
Ifyouprefersilver (Frank Lovato Jr., 116);
See How She Runs (Don Pettinger, 116);
Cielo Girl (Rene Douglas, 115);
Miss Lodi (Eusebio Razo Jr., 115);
Summer Mis (Larry Sterling Jr., 114);
Abundantly Blessed (Marlon St. Julien, 114) and
Oglala Sue (Chris Emigh, 113).
