The New York City Off Track Betting Corporation (NYCOTB) has rejoined the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. NYCOTB joins Connecticut OTB, Bettor Racing OTB and Montana Simulcast Partners among NTRA-member off-track betting organizations. NYCOTB had previously been an NTRA member in 1998.
"Today's decision to rejoin the NTRA represents the continued commitment by the management of NYCOTB to rededicate and refocus this Corporation's efforts toward the betterment of the sport of racing as well as the continued offering of the latest amenities in technology and world class customer service to New York City racing fans," said Raymond V. Casey, president of NYCOTB. "I am confident that our membership in the NTRA and active participation in NTRA programs and undertakings will yield considerable benefits to our patrons and to the City of New York on whose behalf we perform an important governmental function and generate multi-millions in revenue annually."
"We're delighted to have New York City OTB back as an active, important member of the NTRA," said NTRA commissioner Tim Smith. "New York City OTB is one of the largest wagering providers in the nation, and we look forward to working with them in a variety of marketing and promotional areas."
Established in 1971 as the first legal, off-track, pari-mutuel wagering operation in the country, NYCOTB has a yearly wagering handle of over $1 billion. It has a total of 75 branches and restaurant locations (recently rebranded "Eques Ltd.") that, collectively, process an average total of 1.5 million transactions each day. With more than 40,000 phone accounts, NYCOTB is also the largest telephone betting operation in the industry.
