Streaking Bare Necessities Bound for Vanity

Trainer Wally Dollase said that Iron County Farms' multiple grade III winner Bare Necessities will probably make her next start in the June 21 Vanity Handicap (gr. I) at Hollywood Park where she will face Horse of the Year Azeri, among others.

Bare Necessities, who worked a bullet 1:12 4/5 six furlongs Wednesday at Hollywood, last raced on Apr. 26, winning the $250,000 Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) at Hawthorne Race Course by 2 ½ lengths.

"I think we'll give the Vanity a try," Dollase said. "I'm not conceding anything, but a second in a grade I to Azeri would improve her value as a broodmare, so that's what we're going to do. And who knows, maybe she can win?"

Bare Necessities, a gray daughter of Silver Deputy, has won six of her 14 career starts, including her last three in a row, with a second and two thirds, for career earnings of $565,281. In addition to the Sixty Sails, the 4-year-old filly won last year's Indiana Breeders' Cup Oaks (gr. III) and this year's Sacramento and Santa Lucia Handicaps. She also owns placings in the Churchill Downs Distaff Handicap (gr. II) and El Encino Stakes (gr. II).
