Belmont Day at New York City Off-Track Betting facilities set a record for the highest Belmont Day handle in the corporation's 32-year history. NYCOTB patrons wagered $8,456,289. That's a 7.7% increase over last year's total handle at the company. Of this year's total for the day, $3,239,032 was wagered on the Belmont Stakes alone.

"The excitement generated by New York-bred Funny Cide's run for the Triple Crown will go down as one of the greatest sporting events in Triple Crown history. From the moment he crossed the finish line in the Preakness, people throughout the city could not wait until the 135th running of the Belmont Stakes," said NYCOTB CEO Raymond V. Casey in a release. "Funny Cide also gave well-deserved national attention to the successful New York State Breeding and Racing Program, an organization to which New York City OTB has proudly contributed over $137 million since its inception."

NYCOTB operates 65 branches, 7 restaurants, and 3 tele-theaters throughout the five boroughs, and a telephone wagering system with more than 40,000 active accounts.
