Cinema Paradisa, a late-developing 3-year-old filly in the Jerry Hollendorfer stable, worked five furlongs in :59.80 at Hollywood Park Sunday under Patrick Valenzuela for the $200,000-added Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks (gr. II) on Saturday.
"She shipped in a few days ago," said foreman Arthur Calva of the Northern California-based filly, who comes off an eight-length victory in a mile allowance race at Bay Meadows May 25. The victory was her second straight following a maiden score April 27.
"She took to the track pretty good and wasn't too tired afterward," said Calva.
Also working at Hollywood Park for the OaksI test was Princess V., who covered six furlongs in a bullet 1:12.20 for trainer Bill Spawr. The filly finished second after setting most of the pace in the Melair Stakes here April 26.
At Santa Anita, Santa Catarina drilled five furlongs in :58.80 for trainer Bob Baffert.
"I'm still puzzled by her last race," said Baffert of a third-place finish as the odds-on favorite in the Black Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II) on a sloppy Pimlico surface May 16. "Maybe I ran her back too soon."
A field of at least six appears set for the 1 1/16-mile test: multiple stakes winner Buffythecenterfold (Victor Espinoza), Santa Catarina (Gary Stevens), Harbor Blues (Patrick Valenzuela), Princess V. (Jose Valdivia, Jr.), Dash For Money (Alex Solis) and Cinema Paradisa (no rider).
