Windsor Castle Takes Shot at Brandywine

Frank Alexander's Windsor Castle, the recent winner of the William D. Schaffer Handicap (gr. III), tops a field of seven for the one-mile $100,000 Brandywine Handicap at Delaware Park Saturday. The 5-year-old son of Lord Carson notched a 1 3/4-length in his last effort, the one-mile Schaffer Handicap at Pimlico on May 17. Previously, the Kentucky-bred owned and trained by Alexander ran second in the one-mile Fort Marcy Handicap (gr. III) at Aqueduct on April 26. Windsor Castle sports a career record of six wins, seven seconds, and four thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $578,875. The top local is Preferred Pal Stable's Private Lap. In his latest, the Kentucky-bred trained by Allen Iwinski notched a gate-to-wire 5 1/2-length score in the one-mile Quick Card Stakes at Delaware Park on May 10. Previously, the 4-year-old son of Private Terms ran fourth in the 1 1/8-mile Baltimore Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. III) at Pimlico on April 19.
