The Thoroughbred Owners of California will host a free seminar on racing partnerships on Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in the owner/trainer lounge at Bay Meadows.
Scheduled panelists include owners Ken Smole and Jane Conway, and California Horse Racing Board Steward Denis Nevin. Conway and Smole – who have owned percentages of runners including Ten Most Wanted, Good Journey, Meteor Storm and Helmsman – will draw on their extensive experience in racing partnerships. Nevin, who has been a steward since 1978, will discuss CHRB licensing regulations that apply to partnerships and syndicates.
The seminar will cover the ins and outs of owning horses in partnership, including different forms of partnerships, what to look for when choosing partners, partnership agreements, and licensing issues. Attendees will then have a chance to meet some of the trainers stabled at Bay Meadows and visit their operations first-hand by touring the barn area.
Although it is free and open to the public, reservations are recommended and can be made by calling TOC at (650) 571-0459 or (800) 994-9909. Bay Meadows is located at 2600 S. Delaware Street, San Mateo, CA 94402.
