Scrimshaw, trainer D. Wayne Lukas' entrant for Saturday's Belmont Stakes (gr. I), arrived at Belmont Park at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Lukas said the airplane trip from Louisville went well and that Scrimshaw is in good shape and will gallop tomorrow morning over Belmont Park's main track. At Churchill Downs on May 27, Scrimshaw drilled five furlongs in 1:01 1/5.
Scrimshaw, who drew post 3 in the six-horse Belmont field, was listed at 20-1 on the morning line. Bred in Kentucky by Stan and Ingrid Stefanski, Scrimshaw is by Gulch out of the Sham mare Rogue Girl. He is owned by Robert and Beverly Lewis.
Scrimshaw and Funny Cide are the only two Belmont entrants to have both run in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes (both gr. I). Scrimshaw finished 11th in the Derby and third in the Preakness. Prior to the Triple Crown, Scrimshaw won the Coolmore Lexington Stakes (gr. II) at Keeneland. He has a 3-0-2 slate from seven career starts. His career earnings are $408,879.
