Churchill Downs Next Bobblehead: Seattle Slew

Edited from a Churchill Downs release

Seattle Slew, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and the Triple Crown in 1977 and racing's only unbeaten Triple Crown champion, will be featured in Churchill Downs' next bobblehead giveaway on Sunday, June 8 as the latest offering in the track's "Triple Crown Heroes of the 1970's" collectible series.

Seattle Slew is the second Triple Crown champion featured in the series. A bobblehead of 1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed kicked off the series on May 31. The final bobblehead to be given away will be that of the legendary Secretariat that marks the 30th anniversary of his breathtaking run through the three-race series in 1973. The Secretariat bobblehead giveaway is set for Saturday, June 21.

The Seattle Slew bobbleheads will be limited to the track's first 7,500 paid admissions on Sunday (which include pre-purchased tickets). Those fans will receive a voucher at the admission gates that may be redeemed after the day's fourth race at the Clubhouse Redemption Center located on the ground floor. Admission gates are scheduled to open on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. (all times EDT) and post time for the first race is 1:15 p.m.

Each Triple Crown bobblehead is a caricature of the individual horse, yet each figure is intricately detailed for authenticity. The base of each figurine includes the horse's name and year of his Triple Crown sweep and each horse is adorned by a saddle towel that includes the horse's program number from his respective Kentucky Derby win. The Seattle Slew bobblehead features a yellow and black saddle towel that represents the racing colors of owners Karen and Mickey Taylor. The detail on Seattle Slew bobblehead also includes "sure win"-style bit on the horse's head like the one worn by "The Slew" during his historic Triple Crown run.
