Likely Horse of the Year Invasor, winner of the 2006 Breeders' Cup Classic - Powered by Dodge (gr. I), is on target for the $500,000 Donn Handicap (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park after a four-furlong breeze at unseasonably warm Belmont Park Sunday.

Invasor was clocked in :48 3/5 on Belmont’s training track with exercise rider Barry Downes, working in company with stablemate Forecourt, who was clocked in :49. Clockers said Invasor broke a length behind his workmate and finished evenly.

“He worked great,” said Kiaran McLaughlin, who trains both horses for Shadwell Stable. “He did it willingly and wouldn’t blow out a match afterward. It was just what we wanted.”

The next target for Invasor following the Donn is the $6 million Dubai World Cup (UAE-i) at Nad Al Sheba on March 31.

“We’ll get three more decent works into him before the Donn,” said McLaughlin, who plans to transfer both Invasor and Belmont Stakes (gr. I) winner Jazil to Florida in the next couple of weeks.

Jazil made his comeback to the races Friday when he finished second behind Take the Bluff in a second-level allowance race going 1 1/16 miles. The colt had been sidelined with a bruised right hind cannon bone.

“He came out of the race great,” McLaughlin said. “After sleeping on it a couple nights, I thought it was the perfect race coming back. Obviously, we would have liked to win, but we were pleased with the race.”

Jazil’s next start is likely to be the $350,000 Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) on March 3.
