Magna Entertainment has named Drew Shubeck president and general manager of Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie. In addition, G.W. Hail and Paula Newman have been promoted to vice-president and assistant general manager. The announcement came three weeks after the resignation of former Lone Star Park president, Corey Johnsen.
"Drew, G.W., and Paula are valued members of the MEC team, and I'm confident they'll further Lone Star Park's reputation as one of North America's finest horseracing facilities with superior customer service," said Michael Neuman, MEC chief executive officer.
Shubeck joined Lone Star Park's executive team one year ago as vice-president and general manager following a four-year stint as general manager of MEC Pennsylvania Racing at the Meadows. The New Jersey native also served seven years as an associate general manager for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority overseeing Monmouth Park and Meadowlands. Prior to that, he was a regional representative with AmTote International.
Hail and Newman have been executives at Lone Star Park since the racetrack's inaugural racing season in 1997.
Hail joined Lone Star Park in August 1996 as director of marketing following nine years of employment with the Ackerman McQueen Advertising Agency. He was elevated to Lone Star Park's vice-president of marketing and sales in Sept. 1999.
Newman was named Lone Star's controller in May 1997 after eight years in the same position at Remington Park. She was promoted to Lone Star Park's vice-president of finance in Sept. 1999.
Live horse racing returns to Lone Star April 12 for a year-long celebration of the racetrack's 10th anniversary. The 67-date spring Thoroughbred season will run 16 weeks through July 29.
