Apprentice jockey Michael Baze, a promising 16-year-old from a family with a rich tradition in the saddle, has left Hollywood Park for Monmouth Park in New Jersey.

He won three races after starting his career at Hollywood Park a month ago. Michael Baze is a cousin of Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze.

"I was surprised by the decision," said agent Ray Kravagna. "He told me a day before he left."

Mick Ruis, another promising 16-year-old apprentice who launched his career here this month, should dominate the "bug" ranks on the circuit with Baze's departure.
