Shortly after it was announced Thursday that Atswhatimtalknbout would not contest the June 7 Belmont Stakes, the classic lost another starter when Team Valor's Colita was withdrawn from the 1 1/2-mile race at New York's Belmont Park.
A Grindstone colt trained by Carlos Morales, Colita entered the Belmont picture after an allowance victory at Belmont Park two weeks ago. "It's just running back too quick," Team Valor president Barry Irwin said of the time between the allowance win and the Belmont. "He ran real fast. He hasn't recovered. This is a tough race; it's no easy race. We don't want to bring him back this quick."
Irwin said Colita will be pointed toward other races, with the Aug. 23 Travers Stakes (gr. I) at Saratoga the next big goal for the colt.
"We'll let him recover and look for something more normal and then we'll shoot for the Travers."
