Juddmonte Farms' Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Belmont Stakes (gr. I) runner-up Aptitude will return to the races at Churchill Downs Sunday, opening day of the track's fall meet. The Robert Frankel-trained son of A.P. Indy is entered in the fifth race, a 1 1/4-mile allowance for 3-year-olds and older.
Despite is classic placings, Aptitude, with one win in seven career starts, remains eligible for his preliminary allowance condition. Aptitude will carry 111 pounds and will be guided by Victor Espinoza from post position six in the eight-horse field.
Aptitude also finished second in the Gotham Stakes (gr. III) and third in the Wood Memorial (gr. II), finishing behind only Fusaichi Pegasus and Red Bullet -- subsequent winners of the Derby and Preakness Stakes, respectively -- in the Wood.
