(Edited Magic Millions press release)
A colt by champion sire Redoute’s Choice has smashed the record high price record for Magic Millions National Yearling Sale during the first session Tuesday on Australia's Gold Coast. A half-brother to group II winner Magically, the colt will join a leading Sydney stable after being purchased by Rob McAnulty for Aust$800,000.The first session's results were 144 yearlings sold, a gross of Aust$8,155,500, and an average price of Aust$56,635.
The previous sale record was Aust$480,000, set two years ago for a filly by Redoute’s Choice.
“He’s the gem of the sale that’s for sure. A horse like him rarely is available at a sale like this,” McAnulty said. “Physically he’s a lovely individual. He’s a spitting image of another colt by Redoute’s I bought earlier in the year for Aust$2 million. So considering that I think he’s great value.”
According to McAnulty, “No decision had been finalized as to which Sydney trainer would prepare the colt for his racing career. He’ll go to Rick Worthington now and get broken in; he breaks in all my youngsters. And then we’ll decide on a trainer and go from there.”
The colt was consigned by leading Widden Valley nursery Baramul Stud. He is the fifth foal from the dual group II-winning mare Magic Music.
