Trainer Bobby Frankel has entered a formidable duo of Citronnade and Naughty Rafaela in Sunday's $150,000 Beverly Hills Handicap (gr. IIT) for fillies and mares over 10 furlongs on the Lakeside Turf Course at Hollywood Park.
Citronnade, winner of four straight races including the Gamely Breeders' Cup (gr. IT) on the Hollywood lawn in her last start, is the 122-pound high weight in the six-horse field. Brazilian-bred Naughty Rafaela will be aiming for her third consecutive victory in her first start since capturing the Santa Barbara Handicap (gr. IIT) on April 21 at Santa Anita Park.
The Frankel-trained pair will be tested by four others who will have plenty to do in the Beverly Hills.
Citronnade, a 4-year-old homebred owned by Frank Stronach, has seven wins and two seconds in ten starts for earnings of $567,080. Naughty Rafaela, a 5-year-old homebred owned by T N T Stud, is four-for-11 with earnings of $206,224.
California-bred mare Memorette, a 5-year-old daughter of Memo owned by Betty Currin and trained by her husband, Bill Currin, has won four of 27 starts for earnings of $764,753. Her last victory came in the 2006 Beverly Hills nine starts back.
Mabadi, owned by Ron Charles and Clear Valley Stables, won the Yerba Buena at Golden Gate Fields in her last start June 9 and enters the Beverly Hills with three wins in nine starts.
