After edging away from Christmas Kid in the stretch to open a two-length lead, Dreaming of Anna, ridden for the first time by E.T. Baird, dug in tenaciously in the final strides to defeat 25-1 shot New Edition. Dreaming of Anna was under left-handed urging inside the sixteenth pole and drifted out late while holding on in a solid time of 1:47 1/5 for the 1 1/8-mile test. The race was contested on firm going on the outer turf course in spite of rain earlier in the day.
