Jilbab, who won the Coaching Club American Oaks (gr. I), died June 27 of colic. The 8-year-old homebred daughter of A.P. Indy was owned by Sheikh Mohammed's Darley and resided at Gainsborough Farm near Versailles, Ky.

Bred by Darley Stud Management, Jilbab captured the CCA Oaks the summer of 2002 at Belmont Park the second-last year it was held at 1 1/2 miles. She then ran fourth in the Alabama Stakes (gr. I) and third in the Cotillion Handicap (gr. II) in what proved to be her last start. She retired with seven wins or placings from nine races and earnings of $347,880 for Godolphin Racing.

Jilbab was from a valuable female family. Her dam, Headline (by Machiavellian), also produced Italian champion Ancient World. Jilbab's second dam, Priceless Fame, was a record-price broodmare purchase and dam of major winners Saratoga Six and Dunbeath.

Jilbab produced three foals: a 3-year-old filly named Abaya (by Storm Cat), a yearling colt by Elusive Quality  , and a 2007 Awesome Again   filly.
