A field of seven is shaping up for the $1-million Haskell Invitational (gr. I) at Monmouth Park Aug. 5. The race, presented by Vonage, is for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles.
Dwyer Stakes (gr. II) winner Any Given Saturday shipped to Monmouth from Belmont Park July 31 for trainer Todd Pletcher. The Distorted Humor colt worked four furlongs in :49 1/5 at Belmont July 29.
Preakness Stakes (gr. I) winner Curlin (by Smart Strike) turned in his final work for the Haskell July 31 at Saratoga, when he went four furlongs in :49 2/5. Curlin, trained by Steve Asmussen, was scheduled to ship to New Jersey Aug. 1.
Imawildandcrazyguy, fourth in Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), worked six furlongs in 1:13 4/5 at Calder Race Course July 31. By Wild Again, he was scheduled to ship to Monmouth Aug. 1.
Cable Boy, an undefeated colt by Jump Start , will have his final Haskell work the morning of Aug. 1. The Pat McBurney trainee is expected to go four furlongs just after the break. Cable Boy is a perfect three-for-three at Monmouth, including a victory in the June 24 Coronado’s Quest Stakes.
Hard Spun, second in the Kentucky Derby and third in the Preakness, will arrive at Monmouth Aug. 3 and gallop Aug. 4. The Danzig colt worked six furlongs in 1:12 3/5 at Delaware Park July 27 for trainer Larry Jones.
Xchanger, an Exchange Ratecolt who won the Federico Tesio Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in April, worked five furlongs in 1:02 at his Fair Hill Training Center base July 29. Trained by Mark Shuman, Xchanger is expected at Monmouth later in the week.
Stormello, winner of the 2006 Hollywood Futurity (gr. I), could ship east for the Haskell, trainer Bill Currin said. Stormello is by Stormy Atlantic .
