Graded stakes winner Mayakovsky has been retired from racing for stallion duty at Tim Little and Anne Morgan's Mill Creek Farm near Stillwater, N.Y. Phil Birsh, a New York breeder and owner, privately bought the 4-year-old son of Matty G from Michael Tabor and will stand him for $3,000.

Bred by R.C. Van Voorhees, Mayakovsky captured the 2002 Gotham Stakes (gr. III) for his major win and ran second in the Hopeful Stakes (gr. I) the year before. In his first start, he set a 5 1/2-furlong track record of 1:03.32 at Saratoga. Campaigned by Tabor and trained by Patrick Biancone, Mayakovsky won three of nine starts and earned $275,200. His stakes-placed dam, Joy to Raise, is by Raise a Man.
