Echelon led home a one-two finish for Cheveley Park Stud as the 5-year-old mare captured the Celebration Mile (Eng-II) at Goodwood by 1 1/4-lengths over fellow Cheveley Park-owned Cesare Aug. 25.

The victory marked the third in four years for owner-trainer Sir Michael Stoute.  Echelon emulated her older half-sister, Chic, who captured the event in 2004 and 2005.

Jockey Ryan Moore held the daughter of Danehill toward the back of the pack in sixth as Dunelight led the field from the start.  Echelon began to make her move with just less than two furlongs left and soon took over the lead.

Cheveley Park’s Cesare was also making progress under Jamie Spencer and appeared to have every chance with just a furlong left. He was no match for Echelon, however, and the mare pulled away in the final strides.

Cesare held onto second by 1 1/2-lengths over Blue Ksar. Time for the mile was 1:28.97 over a good turf course.

Echelon was bred in England by her owners, Cheveley Park Stud. She is out of the Polar Falcon mare Exclusive.
