Saoirse Abu (royal blue) wins Moyglare Stud.

Saoirse Abu validated her victory in the Independent Waterford Wedgwood Phoenix Stakes (Ire-I) by easily capturing the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Ire-I) at the Curragh Sept. 2.

Regardless of her convincing win in the Phoenix, the Jim Bolger trainee was still sent off at odds of 13-2 in the Moyglare.  Favoritism went to the Aidan O’Brien-trained Listen, a daughter of Sadler’s Wells who entered the race off of a second-place finish to Campfire Glow in the Ballygallon Stud Debutante Stakes (Ire-II) in August.

Jockey Kevin Manning always had Saoirse Abu close to the pace, as the other O’Brien trainee, Juniper Berry, and highly regarded Albabilia led the field through the early stages of the seven-furlong affair.

Saoirse Abu took command with one furlong left to easily win the contest by 1 1/2 lengths over a stubborn Listen.  Mad About You finished another half-length back in third.

Final time for the seven furlongs was 1:25.01 over the good turf course.

Saoirse Abu is by Mr. Greeley out of Out Too Late, by Future Storm.  Out Too Late is a half-sister to Morning Devotion, the dam of champion Balanchine and group II winner Romanov.
