Chapel Royal, a son of Montbrook who topped the OBSC Calder select sale of 2-year-olds in February with a final bid of $1.2 million, will make his career debut in the second race at Belmont Park Thursday.
Chapel Royal will face eight rivals in the five-furlong contest, which is scheduled to go off at 1:30 p.m. Eastern. He is trained by Todd Pletcher and will be racing for owners Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith. Chapel Royal's $1.2 million pricetag set a new record for the OBS Calder sale.
Bred in Florida by Michael O'Farrell's Ocala Stud, the nearly jet-black colt is the second foal of racing age out of the Cutlass mare Cut Class Leanne.
