The inaugural meet at Presque Isle Downs concluded Sept. 29, with the track located at the casino of the same name near Erie, Pennsylvania reporting average daily purse distribution of $432,074 for the 29-day stand. Overnight purses averaged $368,074.
The track, owned and operated by MTR Gaming Group, reported average daily attendance of 2,851 and average daily on-track wagering of $58,257. All-source (on- and off-track) handle totaled $13,185,584 for a daily average of $585,680.
The average number of starters per race at the track, the first in the U.S. to use the Tapeta Footings artificial surface, was 8.79.
Miguel Mena was leading jockey at the meet by number of wins (35) and earnings $1,598,275. Tom Amoss was leading trainer by wins, with 12, and Steve Asmussen topped the purses list for trainers with $847,975. Loren G. Cox’s seven wins was best among owners and leading owner by purses was Maggi Moss, with $373,840.
