Jockey Elliott Gets 3,000th Win

Jockey Stewart Elliott, 38, achieved a career milestone at Philadelphia Park Tuesday when he won his 3,000th race aboard Navesink Enterprises' Navesink Tide for trainer Ned Allard in the day's finale.

The native of Toronto, Canada won his first career race at Philadelphia when it was called Keystone Racetrack in the early 1970's for his father Dennis, a former rider-turned-trainer.

"It really is a feeling of great accomplishment," said Elliott, who was the leading rider at Philadelphia the last two years. "There are many, many riders who work long and hard over many years and never reach 3,000. I needed two wins when the day began and I also knew that if I didn't get it done today, I was probably headed to Delaware Park the next couple days and it would happen there. But Philadelphia Park has been my home for a long time and I really wanted to win it here."

Navesink Tide, a son of You and I, is out of the multiple Grade 1-winning mare Mom's Command, whom Allard also trained.
