Lloyd Madison Farm's Champali, winner of the John Battaglia Memorial and second to Midas Eyes in the Derby Trial Stakes, has re-entered the picture as a possible starter for next Saturday's Preakness Stakes.
Pimlico stakes coordinator David Rollinson said Saturday morning that connections of the Kentucky-bred son of Glitterman had contacted the racetrack and informed them to keep Champali on the list of possible starters.
Champali, winner of the Iroquois Stakes (gr. III) at Churchill Downs in 2002, made his seasonal debut in the $50,000 Turfway Prevue on Jan. 4 and after a stretch-long duel with Great Notion, he earned the victory by a nose. One month later, colt was even more impressive when defeating a field of seven by 2 ¾ lengths in the $50,000 WEBN Stakes.
