Utopia, a stakes winner in Japan, the U.S., and Dubai, has been retired from racing and will enter stud at Joe and Anne McMahon's McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds near Saratoga Springs, N.Y. His fee is $7,500.
Bred in Japan by Northern Farm, 7-year-old Utopia is by Forty Niner out of the Northern Taste mare Dream Vision.
Utopia was a group I winner four consecutive years in Japan, with one of his wins coming in the Derby Grand Prix (Jpn-I) at 3. That year, he also ran second in the Japan Dirt Derby (Jpn-I).
In Dubai, Utopia captured the Jebel Ali International Hotels Godolphin Mile (UAE-II). In the U.S., when he was campaigned by the Maktoum family's Godolphin Racing, he won this year's mile Westchester Handicap (gr. III) in 1:33.23 and ran second in the Nov. 17 Stuyvesant Handicap (gr. III) in his final start. He retired with nine wins from 34 races and earnings of $4,913,585.
Utopia is similarly to major sire Distorted Humor in that both are by Forty Niner out of Northern Dancer granddaughters.
