Mare In Foal To Giant's Causeway Tops Australian Broodmare Sale

La Bella Dama (in foal to Giant's Causeway) brought the top price of Aus$625,000 at the Magic Millions select national broodmare sale, which was held Tuesday in Australia. The group I-winning daughter of Desert Sun was bought back for Aus$600,000 when she went through the sale ring. But her owner/trainer Graeme Rogerson struck a deal afterward to sell the mare to Debra Ho of Macau, and the transaction was announced by Magic Millions officials on Wednesday.
La Bella Dama's price was a record for the auction.
In all, 168 horses were sold for a gross of Aus$9,691,250 and an average price of Aus$57,686. Last year, 161 were sold for a gross of Aus$4,858,750 and an average of Aus$30,179. Seventy-one percent of the horses offered were sold this year compared to 85% last year.
During the Magic Millions national broodmare sale Wednesday,
150 horses were sold for a gross of Aus$620,350 and an average of Aus$4,136.
