2004 by Street Cry (Ire)–Bedazzle, by Dixieland Band
A good-sized, strong, well-balanced horse, Street Sense is success in a plain bay wrapper. He retired sound after competing at the highest level for two years and appears to have much to offer a mare that is not overly coarse or bred on plodding lines.
Street Cry’s first crop has demonstrated a strong affinity between the sons of Machiavellian and Northern Dancer. Street Sense is, of course, a result of this cross, but given the success of inbreeding to Northern Dancer, there seems little reason to avoid Northern Dancer in Street Sense’s mates, particularly when found through Nureyev, The Minstrel, and possibly Lomond. Machiavellian did well from mares by Danzig and his sons Green Desert, Polish Precedent, and Danehill, and Street Cry has already sired grade II winner Street Sounds from a Danzig granddaughter, so this seems a possibility as well. As Danzig has not been a very successful combination with Dixieland Band or His Majesty, however, caution in selecting compatible conformation types should be exercised. Mari’s Book is a rarer son of Northern Dancer who may well be worth a look as his broodmare sire is Maribeau, a *Ribot half-brother to Halo and, like Northern Dancer and Halo, a grandson of the foundation mare Almahmoud.
Street Sense is a complete outcross to the Seattle Slew line, and offers possibilities for inbreeding to Mr. Prospector through Fappiano and through daughters. Conquistador Cielo, who appears in the pedigree of Street Sounds, may be another possibility, and Seeking the Gold, who hails from the same female family as Street Sense’s third damsire, Reviewer, may also be worth a look.
Other pedigree elements that may work with Street Sense include Icecapade, Damascus, Known Fact, Blushing Groom (Fr), and possibly Prince John and Round Table. For those who favor inbreeding to superior females, both Mr. Greeley and Danehill Dancer offer opportunities to inbreed to French champion sprinter Lianga, the fourth dam of Street Sense; however, it should again be noted that conformation matchups may be very important as both stallions carry some pedigree elements that are decided negatives with Street Sense’s ancestry. — by Avalyn Hunter
