The TVG network reported Monday that the Kentucky Derby fueled the largest single day of wagering in the company's history. TVG handled $4,045,559 on Saturday, May 3 – a 45% increase over the company's previous single-day record. Wagering on Churchill Downs' Derby day race card was $3,130,285.
"The Derby gives us momentum as we move into the heart of our racing schedule," said Mark Wilson, president and CEO of TVG. "It is encouraging tosee total wagering on the Derby increase again this year and that TVG played a part in that success."
TVG also announced that total wagering for the first quarter of 2003 ($25,244,151) increased 58% over first quarter of 2002.
"The first quarter results were solid and the trend continues to be positive," Wilson said.
