Les Bois Park shattered its all-time on-track handle by more than 34 percent on opening day May 3.
Bolstered by the Kentucky Derby, home-based Buddy Gil and a Get-a-Bet promotion, the 34-year-old Idaho track handled a total of $381,186 on track. The previous on-track record was $282,642 set back on closing day in 1987.
Les Bois Park, on the verge of extinction just two years ago, was purchased by Lariat Productions, Inc. of Boise, Idaho.
"We are extremely proud of all our staff and employees for the job they did opening day," said Hugh Mellon, Les Bois Park marketing director. "If this is any indication of things to come, we should have a heck of a year."
