Odds tighten as racetime nears.
Last year, the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) favorite was an incredibly high 6-1. Unlike Harlan's Holiday a year ago, Empire Maker was supposed be lower than 2-1. Well, it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
With 50 minutes to race time, Empire Maker was 4-1. He later went to 3-1. Apparently the bruised hoof he has been treated for this week has caused many bettors to look elsewhere.
With $14 million in the win pool, the Unbridled colt is just one tick lower odds than Buddy Gil and Ten Most Wanted at 5-1 each.
After the windows had been open for just an hour on Saturday, the odds on Empire Maker had dropped to 9/2. At 12:40 p.m., He went to 4-1. With 30 minutes to post, he dropped to 3-1.
The odds, in post order:
Supah Blitz, 35-1
Sir Cherokee, scratched
Peace Rules, 7-1
Funny Cide, 14-1
Offlee Wild, 25-1
Buddy Gil, 5-1
Indian Express, 9-1
Lone Star Sky, 46-1
Domestic Dispute, 37-1
Empire Maker, 3-1
Eye of the Tiger, 35-1
Ten Cents a Shine, 30-1
Outta Here, 33-1
Ten Most Wanted, 5-1
