Record Premier Sale Ends
(Edited news release)
The Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale in Australia ended March 6 with records for gross, average and median and a new sale record of Aus$750,000 paid by Darley Australia for a son of Exceed And Excel on March 4.

The highlight of the March 6 final session came late when an attractive son of Danbird topped the day, selling for Aus$80,000 to Rosehill trainer Gerald Ryan. Eliza Park stallion Danbird has impressed many keen judges with his first-crop and the good looking colt – a half-brother to listed winners Ebony Night and Hurry Upel – is typical of his offspring.

Thursday's session II of the Premier Sale saw 127 horses sold for an aggregate of $2,821,500. The average was $22,217 and the median $20,000.

“The results this week are a ringing endorsement of the Victorian industry,” said William Inglis managing director Mark Webster.

“We were hopeful of a good sale,” he continued.  “But it is safe to say that this has exceeded expectations and we are delighted for everyone concerned. We are grateful for the unqualified support of so many vendors at the sale this year. Good horses attract buyers and in this case we’ve had interest from all over the world.”

All yearlings sold are eligible for nomination to the $2.5 million Inglis Race Series that incorporates more than 20 races.
