Edited press release
The Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions yearling sale got off to a cracking start on Australia’s Gold Coast Monday night. Competition was intense for the better bred and conformed youngsters, helping push the clearance rate to a very healthy 85%.
The 84 yearlings sold grossed Aust$12,375,000 and averaged Aust$147,321.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) went to Aust$725,000 for a Redoute's Choice – Marshow colt that is a half-brother to Australian group II winner Into The Night. Offered by Baramul Stud, the colt attracted strong interest from a number of bidders.
Mark Player of the HKJC was thrilled to secure the colt.
"We thought he was one of the colts of the sale," Player said. "He's a lovely looking colt, well-bred and (well) put together. He's by a top class stallion and from a proven stakes producing dam as well. He fitted into our price range and we're delighted to be able to buy him.”
Magic Millions managing director David Chester was happy with the first session’s figures.
"The clearance rate is very pleasing," Chester said. "But again, the figures returned tonight show what a great value yearling sale this really is. We've got some outstanding prospects coming up over the next few days and we're looking forward to offering these youngsters."
