The Australian broodmare sale ended at Newmarket Thursday with a gross of Aus$18,678,650 and an average price of Aus$40,169 for the 465 horses sold.

"There is a clear indication that the quality lots at the sale were highly sought after and vendors with better class mares were very well rewarded in the sale ring," said Reg Inglis, the managing director of William Inglis & Son. "Buyers from all states of Australia, New Zealand, England, France, America, Hong Kong, and Thailand were in attendance following on from the recent Australian Easter yearling sale."

Said Jonathan D'Arcy, the executive director of William Inglis & Son: "There were 14 separate buyers who purchased mares above Aus$200,000, reflecting a good spread of investment at the top end of the market."
