Sackatoga Stable's Wood Memorial runner-up Funny Cide posted a sharp workout at Belmont Park Tuesday in preparation for Saturday's Kentucky Derby. The New York-bred gelding zipped five-eighths of a mile in an official time of :58 2/5, although trainer Barclay Tagg said he got him in :59.
Tagg said he timed the son of Distorted Humor, ridden by exercise rider Robin Smullen, in fractional times of :12, :24, and :35 and that he galloped out six furlongs in 1:11 3/5 following the breeze.
"He went just perfectly," Tagg said of Funny Cide, who is scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on Wednesday. "It really was a perfect work for him. I am satisfied he is ready."
