The average price rose 31% from a year ago and the gross revenue increased 27% Monday during the Australian select weanling sale at Newmarket.
"It was a very strong market for quality weanlings and we are extremely pleased with today's results," said Reg Inglis, managing director of William Inglis & Son.
The 189 weanlings sold grossed Aus$4,599,000 and averaged Aus$24,333.
The unreserved dispersal of the Newhaven Park Stud weanlings added depth to this year's weanling catalogue, and 19 were sold for a gross of Aus$1,171,000 and an average of Aus$61,632.
The top-priced weanling of the sale, at Aus$230,000, was a son of Quest For Fame that was part of the Newhaven draft. The colt was produced from Beam, an unraced Scenic mare. He is closely related to the STC Coolmore Classic group I winning race filly Bollinger. Belmont Bloodstock was the buyer.
