Spain, North America's leading female earner, produced her first offspring, a Storm Cat colt, April 27 at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. Owned The Thoroughbred Corp., Spain (Thunder Gulch -- Drina, by Regal and Royal) was covered by Storm Cat last May and won the Fleur de Lis Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs while in foal prior to her retirement in July. She earned $3,540,542.
