Jim Quinn, a noted handicapper and author who coordinated customer response and participated in consumer research following the Breeders' Cup Pick 6 betting fraud, has been named to the newly established position of Players' Representative by the NTRA Wagering Integrity Alliance (WIA).
In this role, Quinn will serve as the official NTRA liaison to the horseplaying community and be available to the general public regarding any issues related to wagering. Quinn, who can be reached via e-mail at jquinn@ntra.com, will also establish and oversee a Player Panel to discuss and advise the NTRA Wagering Integrity Alliance on player issues (e.g., taxation, bet types, individual state rules, et al.), make recommendations to the NTRA legislative group regarding such issues as taxation and withholding, continue research on prevailing attitudes among players, and review existing account wagering procedures and establish a set of best practices in this area.
"We are delighted to have Jim on board in this new ombudsman's capacity," said NTRA commissioner Tim Smith. "Horseplayers, the people whose wagering dollars fuel our industry, deserve a recognized, accountable representative who can speak for their interests when decisions are being made. I hope our customers will not hesitate to contact Jim. His presence in this role insures that their input will be heard."
