Maiden 4-year-old Cinquante Cinq (by Danehill) topped third day of trading at Tattersalls’ July mixed sale in England July 10, bringing 100,000 guineas from Australian agent Sheamus Mills.
The Sangster family’s homebred is a half-sister to Prix de l’Abbaye (Fr-I) winner Carmine Lake (by Royal Academy) and had many fanciers. Mills, who was acting for breeder Robert Harding, ultimately saw off Gerard Burke, owner of Glidawn Stud.
Shadwell home-bred Dalhaan (by Bahri), a Pontefract maiden winner last month, could also end up in Australia after selling for 95,000 guineas to agent Crispin de Moubray.
The 133 horses sold grossed 1,813,500 guineas and averaged 13,635 guineas. The median price was 8,000 guineas. The number offered was 161.
Last year, 166 horses sold for a gross of 2,613,700 guineas and an average price of 15,745 guineas. The median was 9,000 guineas.
The sale is scheduled to end July 11.
