B. Wayne Hughes' grade I-placed filly Watching You suffered a fracture of her right front leg during a workout at Hollywood Park on Saturday and will be out of action for at least six months, Pablo Silva, assistant to trainer Warren Stute, said. The 3-year-old daughter of Coronado's Quest was scheduled to start next in the May 4 Railbird Stakes (gr. III) at Hollywood Park.
"She worked good, seven-eighths in 1:27 and change (1:27 2/5), and came back fine, cooled out fine," Silva said. "But a couple hours after, she was sore on it and the x-rays said she had a fracture. She had surgery (Monday) and they put a screw in and she's resting now and doing very good. She'll be sent to the farm in a couple of days and the vet said she'd be out for about six months."
Watching You, trained by Warren Stute, last finished second to Buffythecenterfold, trained by his brother Mel, in the Mar. 23 Santa Paula Stakes at Santa Anita. She hasn't won since breaking her maiden in October, but owns placings in the Moccasin Stakes, Santa Ynez Stakes (gr. II) and Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I). Overall her career line reads 6-1-3-1, $136,475.
