from the National Thoroughbred Racing Association
The National Thoroughbred Racing Association will host a free equine tax seminar at the Keeneland sale pavilion Sept. 12, a dark day during the Keeneland September yearling sale.
The seminar, from 3-5 p.m. (EDT), will be hosted by Thomas “Tad” Davis, a partner in the Washington, D.C., law firm Davis & Harman, LLP, and author of numerous guides on tax matters affecting horse owners, including “Tax Tips for Horse Owners” and “Horse Owners and Breeders Tax Handbook.”
The seminar will begin with a presentation by Davis, followed by a question-and-answer session. Topics include the tax law benefits of the Economic Stimulus Act and the Farm Bill.
“We encourage every current and prospective racehorse owner to take advantage of this free tax seminar and the opportunity to ask questions of one of the industry’s foremost equine tax experts,” said Peggy Hendershot, senior vice president of legislative affairs for the NTRA. “In the current economy, tax considerations will certainly impact buyers’ decisions. Buyers and sellers alike should be conversant on the special tax benefits of buying racehorses in 2008 and the new depreciation schedule that commences next year.”
The seminar is the third offered by the NTRA this year. To reserve a spot, contact Joe Bacigalupo of the NTRA at 1-800-792-6872, ext. 677, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
