Joanies Bella, a graded stakes winner and Ohio champion, has been retired from racing and is booked to Wild Again. A 4-year-old daughter of Mercer Mill out of the Northrop mare Bello Senorita, Joanies Bella won six of 11 races and earned $274,265 for owners Jerry Ayres and Daniel Martin and trainer Tim Hamm.
Bred by Martin, Joanies Bella won the 2001 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes (gr. III) and three other stakes the year she was Ohio's champion 2-year-old filly. She won what would prove to be her final start and her only one on grass, the Cincinnatian Stakes last summer at River Downs.
Joanies Bella was in training in Florida with conditioner Kenny McPeek when it was decided to retire her because of heat in her right front leg. In the early part of her racing career, she suffered a cracked sesamoid.
