Thunderhead Farms' Lady Gin trimmed over two seconds off the previous Hawthorne Race Course track record for about five furlongs on the turf Sunday, winning the $44,000 Wooden Star Stakes in :56.19 over firm turf. The previous track record of :58 4/5 was shared by three horses.

The Don Von Hemel-trained 3-year-old daughter of Saint Ballado led at every call as the 11-10 favorite to win by 2 1/2 lengths under jockey Christopher Valovich. She earned $26,400 for the win, her sixth in 16 starts. Little Won was second, and Diablo's First Lady third in the eight-horse field.

Lady Gin was bred in Florida by Ocala Stud Farm. (Chart, Equibase)
