An A.P. Indy filly out of the grade I-winning Smart Strike mare Shadow Cast was purchased by agent John Ferguson for $1-million to jump start the Sept. 9 second session of the Keeneland September yearling sale.

Consigned by Lane’s End, the filly was bred by Farish and Farish TGP. The filly is the first foal out of Shadow Cast, who included the grade I Personal Ensign among her nine career wins. She had a Storm Cat colt this year.

"She (Shadow Cast) is a great mare, and she (the yearling) was another real quality A.P. Indy filly," said Ferguson, who is Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock manager.  "The long and the short of it is that, really, it's a repeat of the ($3.1 million) Chimichurri (yearling) yesterday in that she's a real classy individual out of a top mare and by a great stallion. Sheikh Mohammed described her as looking like a Saluki, which is a thing that is very dear to his heart. It is a particularly beautiful dog and fast."

During Monday’s first session, Ferguson, who represents Sheikh Mohammed, was the leading buyer and A.P. Indy was the leading first-session sire.
